What is the Best Way to Revise Your Courses?

Effective techniques and modern tools to learn faster and retain information longer.

Finding the right revision method can make all the difference between simply reading and achieving true long-term memorization. Instead of multiplying hours of work without strategy, it is possible to optimize your learning with simple and proven techniques.

1. Revise early… and regularly

The classic first mistake is to cram everything at the last minute. The brain retains information much better when it is repeated over time. So plan several short sessions (20 to 40 min) spread over several days rather than one long marathon.

📆 Tip: use the spaced repetition technique, which consists of reviewing concepts just before you forget them.

2. Test yourself instead of re-reading

Passively re-reading your notes creates the illusion of mastery, but it is not effective. The best way to strengthen memory is to actively test yourself:

  • do quizzes or flashcards;
  • answer questions out loud;
  • summarize a lesson without looking at your notes. With RagsApp, for example, you can turn your documents into interactive flashcard sets to self-assess easily.

3. Vary formats and approaches

Every brain learns differently. Alternating between different supports helps anchor information better:

  • 📝 Write summaries by hand to stimulate motor memory.
  • 🎧 Explain the lesson out loud or to someone else to reinforce understanding.
  • 📊 Create diagrams of key concepts using mind maps or flowcharts. The more senses and different techniques you engage, the more solid your learning becomes.

4. Plan and track your progress

Organizing your time is just as important as the revision method itself. Create a clear schedule with specific goals:

  • chapters to master each week;
  • dedicated slots for active revision;
  • full review sessions before the exam. The Insights tab in RagsApp helps you visualize mastered topics and those that need more work, so you can better prioritize your efforts.

5. Take breaks and sleep well

Finally, remember that memorization continues during sleep. A good night’s sleep after a revision session consolidates what you have learned. Similarly, regular breaks (5 to 10 minutes every 45 minutes) allow your brain to process information without becoming overloaded.

The best way to revise is therefore not a single method, but a combination of complementary strategies: revise early, self-test, vary approaches, track progress, and take care of yourself.

💡 With RagsApp, you can turn all these good practices into habits: create flashcards in one click, monitor your progress, and even collaborate with classmates to learn more effectively.
